IInd Summer School, Santa Cesarea Terme, Italy

The second ARIS*ER summer school was organized in the spectacular seafront Santa Cesarea Terme (Italy) from July 17th to July 21th in 2006. Santa Cesarea Terme is recognized for its thermal activities including famous caves of sulphuric origins as well as the beauty of the place.

The hosting partner (IFC-CNR) was pleased to organise this event at the Albergo Palazzo, standing on the Adriatic coastline. This three stars hotel - constructed in a "monumental" style in the early nineties - is right front of the sea.

The scientific content was well-balanced between lectures from the ARIS*ER community in order to present the first results of the research activities and lectures from invited speakers from most prestigious clinical centre, hospitals and research institutes. Cutting-edge companies also participated with live demos of their products, leading to further collaboration for R&D in the Minimally Invasive Therapies domain. Best paper award was granted to one of the recruited young researchers based on paper contribution in the text book and on oral presentation.

A social event was organized at the abbey of Santa Maria di Cerrate. Lost in the middle of olive trees, this abbey was erected during the XIIth century by the Norman Tancrede, count of Lecce, to whom the Madonna would have appeared during a hunt between the horns of a deer. (The name "Cerrate" comes from "cervo" that means deer in Italian). Once again, the dinner was served with an air of "pizzica".
