Winter Workshop II

The workshop will take place in Chesa Laret, a beautiful villa situated in a larch forest above the village Sil-Maria in the entrance of the side valley Fextal of the Engadin valley in Switzerland. We will spend Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday working on various aspects of ARIS*ER.

There is a lot to do apart from having fun and informal discussions with the other members of ARIS*ER. The beautiful surroundings invite for walks in the woods. There are many possibilities for cross-country and down-hill skiing. Next to a sledge path a classic cross-country track is near-by the villa climbing up the Fex Valley. The famous Corvatch down-hill skiing region is just 15 minutes walk from the Villa.

IMPORTANT

Chesa Laret has 13 rooms on 3 floors, with 26 beds. We can stay in the villa from Sunday March 9 18:00 to Saturday March 15 10:00. So it is possible to travel also on Sunday and stay until Saturday morning. For skiing-lovers this offers two additional skiing events, on Monday e.g. the famous Engadin Snow Safari and the Corvatsch Snow Night - night skiing - on Friday. But the Engadin offers also to non-skiers a lot of interesting opportunities.

About the region

Following the end of the ice age, an 80 km long valley opened up in the modern canton of Graubunden, at a height of 1.800 meters above sea level. This valley - the Engadin, is one of the highest inhabited valleys in Europe.

Sils lies in an idyllic position, at an altitude of 1804 meters, between the Silvaplaner Lake and the Silsersee. This tranquil health resort, with its two traffic-free village centers of Sils-Maria and Sils-Baselgia is home to just 744 residents. Intellectuals too are drawn to Sils: in addition to the writer Hermann Hesse, the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche spent his summers in Sils-Maria between 1881 and 1888. Nietzsche's former residence is now home to a museum housing original writings.

In Sils the side valley Fextal joins the main valley Engadin. Fextal lies at an altitude of almost 2.000 meters and is one of the highest year-round inhabited valleys in Switzerland.
