Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

The Katholieke Universiteit Leuven participates in the project with the Department of Mechanical Engineering.Within this department the division of Biomechanics and Engineering Design has started a collaboration with the division of Production Engineering, Machine Design and Automation since more than five years now, in the area of surgical robotics. The robotics group contributes within this collaboration its experience with hybrid force-velocity robot control, haptics research and research into shared autonomy, supervisory control and human demonstration. The group has access to a Caspar orthopaedic surgical robot and a Zeus system for minimally invasive robot assisted therapy. In the lab several industrial robots are available, some of them dedicated to surgical robotics research. There is also a Phantom haptics interface, and a fully sensorised one-dimensional teleoperation test setup. The group comprises four professors, two post-doctoral researchers, five Ph.D students.
